National Legacies:

  • After speaking for fees for about ten years, Michael joined the National Speakers Association in 1988.
  • Michael is the co-founder of  the Educators P.E.G.
  • For several years, Michael co-facilitated the NSA Youth Program.
  • In 1992-1994, Michael sat on the Certified Speaking Professional Committee as the "non-CSP Member" of the committee.
  • In 1993- Present, Michael facilitated a "Meet the Pros" table at workshops and the convention.
  • In 1994, Michael served on the Voices of Experience Committee with Terry Brock
  • In 1994, Michael earned the Certified Speaking Professional credential making him the second youngest ever to receive that designation.
  • In 1995, Michael presented a breakout session at the Eastern Workshop in Atlanta titled, "Telling the Story, Painting the Picture." It became one of the best-selling tapes of the workshops that year.
  • In 1995-1997, Michael did the "Chapter Liaison Audio Newsletter" for two years.
  • In 1996, as the president of the Professional Speakers Association of Michigan (PSAM), Michael started a virtual chapter presidents’ chat on AOL. This chat continues to be the way NSA chapter presidents communicate around the world. This eventually lead to a national meeting of chapter leaders called "Camp NSA" at NSA's headquarters in Tempe, Arizona. To date, chapter presidents (and president-elects) meet virtually for a monthly on-line chat.
  • In 1998, Michael presented a general session at the Eastern Workshop in Norfolk, Virginia, titled, "YUK MAKES YOU STRONGER," which eventually became one of the best-selling audio tapes of the workshops.
  • In 1998, Michael chaired the "Meet the Pros" at both the eastern & western workshops.
  • In 1998-1999, Michael co-chaired the National Speakers Association audio magazine, "Voices of Experience," with Geoffry Bryan!  They became famous for their controversy and the feature POINT/COUNTERPOINT!

  • In 2000 - 2001, Michael servered as the chair of the National Speakers Association Motivational Professional Emphasis Group.

  • 2009-2010, Michael will serve as the chair of the Certified Speaking Professional Council.

    • August 9th, 1999, at the National Speakers Association National Convention in San Antonio, Morley Safer of 60 Minutesthe TV News program "60 Minutes" did an expose on "motivational speaking," featuring Zig Ziglar.  In defense of motivation, Michael Scott Karpovich was interviewed by Morley Safer. Although Michael made the final cut of this story it ended up being just a short cameo. This story aired April 16, 2000 and was rebroadcast May 26, 2002 ... CHECK HERE FOR DETAILS.

  • When he learned that he would become president of the Michigan chapter, Michael  joined the NSA Ohio (Ohio Speakers Forum) to learn how to make NSA Michigan (PSAM Professional Speakers Association of Michigan) better.

  • After first presenting at the 1995 Eastern Workshop in Atlanta (Telling The Story, Painting The Picture), Michael was invited to speak at other chapters around the country... as a gesture of support, he joined The Pennsylvania Speakers Association and became a charter member of that new chapter. 

  • After speaking for the New England Speakers Association Speakers University... the chapter honored Michael by asking him to become an honorary lifetime member of the New England Speakers Association.  There are four professional speakers who have been given this highest honor: Bill Hersey, the oldest living member of NSA; Og Mandino, the late author of great books like "THE GREATEST SALESMAN IN THE WORLD"; and Rosita Perez, CPAE Speakers Hall of Fame & Cavett Award winner!
