Having presented to the Pennsylvania School Food Service Association, the Michigan School Food Service Association, the Minnesota School Food Service Association, the Missouri School Food Service Association, and the Oklahoma School Food Service Association (not to mention Gordon Food Service and Spartan Foods), I thought it only appropriate that I do a special page for my friends in Food Service. Of course, I have a special place in my heart for School Food Service Professionals or as they are affectionately called, the "LUNCH LADIES." Gwen is one such "Lunch Lady"... although she is also a proud School Food Service Professional. I first met her at the Aroostook Teen Leadership Camp in 1992, near Caribou, Maine (thus the Lobster theme)! After she worked all school year, she was thrilled to continue her duties at a special teen camp. Gwen is a silver-haired grandmother who has such gentle power that she drew her children and grandchildren into the same service during camp! Although I have yet to present to the Maine School Food Service Association, I dedicate this page to Gwen and all of her colleagues! This page will feature recipes offered to me by friends, colleagues, family and other food service professionals! If you have a unique recipe that is fun, particularly if it is connected to a story or a personality, please feel free to submit it to Gwen's Page !
Recipe #1 MINNIE TAMRAZ cookies... My mother told me my 102 year old Grandmother, Elizabeth Riley Swern, would often walk down the road to visit her friend Minnie. Minnie and Grandma were both members of the Ladies Aide Society of the Sand Creek United Brethren Church in Nyesville, Indiana. Rumor has it that Minnie could talk the wallpaper off a wall! Nevertheless, Grandma said she made great cookies! MINNIE TAMRAZ
Mix together ingredients. Place teaspoonful on greased cookie sheet and bake in 350º oven. Let cool and send half to me here in Caro, Michigan! These are my favorite cookies. I am sure you will be pleased!
Recipe #2 Wassail... a Delicious Drink The real estate agent, Barbara Osentoski, who sold me my 160 year old home (which I am still trying to remodel), has made a holiday tradition of sending her clients a recipe! (Thanks, Barbara!) I think you will enjoy this: WASSAIL
In large saucepan, heat cider and 1 cinnamon stick to boiling. Reduce heat, cover and simmer 5 minutes. (KARP note: This alone makes the house smell great... If I had my way, I would spend the entire Fall and Winter with cider and cinnamon on the stove! Ummm, ummmm!) Uncover, stir in remaining ingredients, and simmer 5 minutes longer. You can use additional cinnamon sticks as individual stirrers. Makes about 16 servings, about a 1/2 cup each. I know you are going to have a BLAST with this on the stove!
Recipe # 4 EASY LOW FAT PIE1-8oz Lite Cool Whip* 2-8oz fat free or low fat yogurt 1-4oz box of pudding 1-reduced fat graham cracker crust Mix together cool whip, pudding powder (do not add milk) and yogurt and put into graham cracker crust. Refrigerate.possible combinations include:
